The January edition of Velo is the fourth-annual Personalities Issue, which profiles some of cycling’s most prominent people. It’s not all about results or fame, rather, an inside look at some of the most powerful, influential, and inspiring characters involved in the sport.

Several features look back at America’s cycling history, as we examine trailblazers like Greg LeMond, and his recent return to the sport. We also profile Steve Tilford’s outspoken attitude about all things cycling and Gary Fisher’s once crazy vision, now turned global success.

Those involved behind the scenes of racing also have interesting stories to tell, and in this issue, you’ll find features on team directors Charly Wegelius, Rachel Heal, Matt White, and one of the most powerful agents in the sport, Giovanni Lombardi.

For the cover, we chose the man who is perhaps the biggest personality in the modern peloton, Fabian Cancellara. Unafraid to speak his mind, “The General,” has without doubt seen success in his career. From the cobbled classics of the North to his days in yellow at the Tour de France, Cancellara has long been perceived as the voice the peloton, interjecting when he sees fit, warranted or not.

Aussie hardman, Adam Hansen is featured as well, along with cyclocross racers Ben Berden, a seasoned veteran, and Maghalie Rochette, one of the ‘cross scene’s freshest faces.

Stella Yu, of Velo, a Taiwanese saddle manufacturer, is put in the limelight for her unlikely rise to success as one of the bike industry’s most powerful players.

As for VeloNotes, the January magazine takes a deep look inside the world of women’s racing and the troubles it faces as it grows. Also, Andrew Hood, breaks down the current craze over the “the double” and why the world’s best GC contenders are looking to win big twice in 2015.

In Tech & Training, the Velo tech crew tests the aerodynamic differences between standard rim and disc brakes. In training, coach Trevor Connor speaks of the benefits of training indoors, despite the psychological toll it may take.
